EXERCISE: breaking in

Writer's Digest, February 2007, page 17 has this writing prompt:
Someone breaks into your home, but all he steals is a loaf of bread, a dozen eggs, and a gallon of milk. Write a story from the thief's point of view.
Not the TV, the DVD recorder, the jewelry, or the money. Just a loaf of bread, some eggs, and milk.

Feel free to try some variations, too. A loaf of bread and a jug of wine? Or perhaps that odd little vase from Italy that your friend gave you when you were only 12 years old?

A theft, but quite extraordinary. And you tell the tale.
