Oho, in my magic mirror, I can tell, you're fighting the ides of spring, with the feverish desire to slough off and just look out at the sunshine, the gentle rains of spring, the flowers blooming, the frogs croaking, the buzzing bees, all that spring stuff...
BUT, for a short time only, right here, right now, you can pick a number between... say one and six! Yes, just like rolling a die. You got your number?
No, pick a number. Now!
All right. In the following list, you will find a dilemma, a scene, a sparkle of a problematic event...
1. You are driving alone on a highway at night. A desperate looking person tries to flag you down. Do you stop?
2. You work for an optical store. Jimmy has broken his glasses and his parents are agonizing over the price of replacements. A competitor is selling identical glasses for half-price. Do you send Jimmy's parents there?
3. Your child support payments will be cut in half if you tell your 'ex' about the big raise you got. Do you tell?
4. A professor is failing you as a result of a personality conflict. You have penetrated the university's computer. Do you raise your mark?
5. A beloved sister is engaged to marry a man who, in your opinion, is bad news. She is in love. Do you try to persuade her not to marry him?
6. At a cabaret, you notice a handsome young man dressed to the "nines." Except, his vest is inside-out and the label is showing. Do you tell him?
There you go. Six for fun and fantasy. Well, all right, here. Feel free to use this as an alternative, or to mix it with the one you got, or just ignore it.
Bonus: You are exhausted and planning to relax at a movie. Friends need a babysitter so they can attend a meeting. Do you babysit?
Go ahead. Spruce up the characters, round them out and add others as needed. Put the whole thing in a setting. Add dialogue, weather, or whatever you need to make it a story.
And tell us how it comes out? Who was that midnight cowboy on the highway of your life? Did Jimmy get his glasses? Will you be spending your raise on yourself, or your child? Hahaha, did the hack lead you into temptation? Will true love redeem that loser? Did you straighten out that fellow's clothing difficulties? And, of course, did the babysitter come?
Go ahead. WRITE!
